According to the company website, Dakota Dry Bean was founded in 1998 as a dry bean marketing company for local growers in Grand Forks, ND and East Grand Forks, MN. By August 1999 the company was cleaning and marketing peas for growers in Washburn and East Grand Forks. The Crary facility was purchased in 2002, followed by the acquisition of a facility in Devils Lake and a barley pearling line in East Grand Forks in 2007. In March 2011, Dakota Dry Bean Inc. built a new processing facility in Devils Lake to produce pea starch, pea flour, and pea protein.

On March 8, 2019, the Devils Lake Journal reported a fire at a dry bean marketing company in Crary, North Dakota.
Four firefighting trucks from Devil’s Lake Rural Fire Department responded.
The company president said that the damage was minimal. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
