Description of Potential Metal Dust Fire:
The Daytona Daily News reported that a fire at the Miami Valley Polishing facility caused $150,000 in damage on May 14, 2018. According to the Piqua Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief it took more than two hours to knock the fire down and the causes may have been electrical or due to combustible metal dust. No one was injured and the investigation is ongoing into the source of fire.
An OSHA Establishment Search showed four violations at the facility since 2014. The largest violation was flagged under the Combustible Dust National Emphasis Program and had an initial penalty of more than $50,000. The metal polishing facility was moved to 170 Fox Drive after a fire destroyed the original facility (source: Firehouse) at 220 Fox Drive in October 2012. It is unclear whether combustible metal dust played a role in this earlier incident.
