On December 7, 2018, Southern Maryland News reported a structure fire at a sawmill in Mechanicsville, Maryland.
The incident was noticed by an area resident, who notified the authorities. When firefighters arrived shortly after 1:45 a.m., they found a 100’ x 40’ building on fire and issuing heavy clouds of smoke. The Daily Dispatch reported that 50 firefighters worked for 45 minutes until the fire was controlled.
According to authorities, the fire was started when sawmill equipment ignited combustible materials within the interior of the structure. The total financial loss was estimated at $500,000. There were no injuries reported.
