Incident Description:
On November 5, 2018, regional news source Neue Westfalische reported a fire in a wood chip bin at a furniture-making facility in Bünde-Ennigloh, Germany.
Employees noticed the flames shortly before 8:00 a.m. and immediately called the fire department. Arriving emergency crews soon had the fire under control and used a drone with a thermal imaging camera to detect any residual smouldering.
The company’s managing director said that the fire may have occurred when the temperatures rose in the bin, causing the wood to ignite. A specialist company was hired to vacuum the chips out of the bin and transfer them to a separate container.
No injuries were reported and property damage was described as limited.
