Description
A worker at Spectro Coating Corp. was seriously injured when an oven exploded and caught fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene of the manufacturing facility at 7:15 am. The facility processes flock, which is a finely divided fiber material used in the manufacturing of sound-canceling carpet for motor vehicles. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.
One worker, who was not identified, suffered serious injuries and was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. The business was shut down for the day, while state inspectors and investigators examined the incident. Officials said damages to the plant were minimized by the drying oven’s built-in fire suppression system and an employees quick use of a fire extinguisher. OSHA opened an investigation into the injury of the worker.
