In this introductory episode of the Dust Safety Science podcast we cover the purpose of the podcast, a little bit about my background, what you can expect moving forward, and how you can get involved.
Purpose of the Podcast
The purpose of the podcast is to drive awareness, knowledge, connection, and change in the safe handling of combustible dust materials. The podcast is meant for facility owners, plant managers, health and safety specialists, researchers, consultants, and equipment manufactures involved in industries handling combustible dusts.
About the Podcast Host
Dr. Chris Cloney is director and lead researcher at DustEx Research Ltd., a company with a world-wide focus on reducing personal and financial loss from combustible dust incidents. Dr. Cloney finished his PhD in 2018 which focused on computational modeling of combustible dust and hybrid mixture deflagration.
Starting in 2016, Chris began creating online educational material focused on increasing awareness and knowledge in combustible dust safety at myDustExplosionResearch.com. He also started tracking and reporting on dust fires and explosions around the world, which are now being compiled into the Combustible Dust Incident Database.
The Dust Safety Science podcast is an extension of this previous work meant to help connect the various stakeholders in industries handling combustible dusts. By allowing an open dialogue in an accessible format, it is envisioned that a connected global community can be created to share knowledge, develop systems, and influence change to reduce loss in these industries.
