Incident Description:
On October 26, 2023, Sandhills Express reported a fire at an agricultural facility in Merna, Nebraska.
The Merna Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at around 1:00 pm on October 25. The incident involved a grain bin dryer catching fire: material had accumulated inside the dryer, leading to a fire. The dryer, filled with corn, was ablaze, and firefighters had to systematically remove all the corn. This process was time-consuming.
A team of seven firefighters was on-site for about three and a half hours, successfully limiting the damage. They managed to unload all the corn from the bin, remove the burnt corn from within, and thoroughly clean the grain bin.
No injuries were reported.
