Incident Description:
On September 26, 2018, the Times of India reported a fire at a spinning mill in Bommanallur, India. The fire began in the blow room of the building. Fire and rescue services personnel from nearby Dharampurum said that cotton being processed in a machine could have ignited and caused the incident. When workers tried to remove cotton from the machine, six of them suffered burn injuries. One man experienced 95% burn injuries and remains in critical care at a hospital.
The police stated that a fire safety system had been installed at the mill and its employees had participated in drills. However, they concluded that there was a lack of appropriate safety measures and booked the mill manager and blow room supervisor for endangering the life or personal safety of others.
There were no reports regarding the extent of the property damage.
