Incident Description:
On September 12, 2023, the News Guard reported a fire at a pulp and paper company in Toledo, Oregon.
On the morning of September 11th, a reported fire in the dryer section of the paper building prompted the response of fire units from The Toledo Fire Department and the Emergency Response Team from the company.
Upon arrival, responding crews observed smoke and flames emanating from the roof vent of the building housing a wood chip dryer unit. Fortunately, the mill’s fire suppression system functioned as intended, as confirmed by fire officials.
The Toledo Fire Department reached out for mutual aid assistance from neighbouring fire agencies. Firefighters successfully located and extinguished the source of the fire. Units remained on the scene to ensure there were no flare-ups.
No injuries were reported.
