Incident Description:
On August 2, 2023, Hamburger Abendblatt reported a fire at an agribusiness in Brunstorf, Germany.
The fire in the grain filled silo started on July 31. At certain intervals, the firefighting efforts engaged up to 200 emergency service personnel. Owing to the towering height of the silo structures, the fire brigade had made a requisition for a telescopic ladder from the Hamburg professional fire brigade. This specialized equipment boasted an operational elevation of 60 metres.
By the following day, most of the emergency response units had departed. The remaining firefighting team conducted regular inspections of the structure using a thermal imaging camera and applying water cooling when necessary. They then proceeded to empty the silo.
The fire department has indicated that no injuries were sustained during the operation but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
