Description
Firefighters were called to a wood dust explosion and fire involving a wood chip storage silo and three storage bins. A local fire marshal reported the cause of the explosion as a “Backdraft” phenomena, although no information was given on the ignition source.
The silos, bins, and wood ducts were approximately 80 feet in height which hampered firefighting efforts. One employee was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation during the fire. One firefighter was also injured fighting the fires and taken to the local hospital
