Incident Description:
On July 20, 2023, Agrarheute reported a fire at a grain processing facility in Dresden, Germany.
A smouldering fire erupted at around 1:16 p.m. in a concrete silo filled with a straw-dung mixture. It quickly spread across the entire width of the building and worked its way inward.
Upon arriving at the scene, the first responders used a jet pipe to extinguish the surface of the fire. A cloud of smoke could be seen from a distance, and the smell of burning even reached neighbouring residential areas, according to the fire brigade. They then proceeded to launch an extensive firefighting assault using multiple nozzles.
The local farmers assisted the fire brigade, using their agricultural machinery to help extinguish the flames. The unexpected rain also played a role in aiding the firefighting efforts. Eventually, thanks to the concerted action of all involved and the use of specialized technology, the fire was declared extinguished by nightfall.
No injuries were reported.
