Incident Description:
On July 6, 2023, News Center 1 reported a fire at an agribusiness in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Shortly after 12:00 p.m., the Rapid City Fire Department promptly responded to a structure fire at the facility. Upon arrival, the initial responding crews spoke with the staff members of the establishment, who had alerted them about smoke emanating from one of the conveyor belts. The specific area of concern was the highest point within the grain mill, requiring access via the roof.
To gain entry into the silo, the firefighting teams used aerial trucks, leveraging the existing three-story structure positioned above the primary silo. It was determined that the fire originated from a mechanical structure that needed to be disassembled in order to access and address the fire.
Given the complexities of the situation, the firefighting crews remained on the scene and actively worked for a duration of three hours.
No injuries were reported.
