Incident Description:
On June 20, 2023, News Talk 94.1 reported a fire at an insulated wire and cable recycling facility in Sparta, Tennessee.
The Cookeville Fire Department provided assistance to the Sparta Fire Department after the latter faced difficulties in extinguishing the fire.
The fire originated from ignited metal shavings that accumulated in the exhaust system, eventually spreading to a holding silo. The Sparta FD encountered challenges in accessing the silo with water. To address this, the Cookeville FD used their aerial platform to open up the silo and deliver water into it. They employed an elevated master stream, capable of pumping large volumes of water, which significantly aided the firefighting process.
Teams remained on the scene for approximately 3.5 hours. No injuries were reported.
