On March 24, 2023, Kazinform reported a coal dust explosion and fire at a thermal power plant in Ridder, Kazakhstan.
The explosion has led to the declaration of a local state of emergency. As a result of the incident, the regional administration will assume control of the plant until the end of the heating season. The plant’s current owners are being held responsible for their ineffective work, inability to pay debts, and failure to address previous repair issues.
The governor of the region reported that there have been 67 shutoffs, fires in high-pressure boilers 4 and 5, a coal dust explosion, and damage to cable and wire products at the plant. Additionally, an inspection of the plant’s activities revealed over 240 violations of the law.
