Incident Description:
On February 16, 2023, Fantasy reported a silo explosion and fire at a polymer production plant in Gersthofen, Germany.
The fire ignited at around 9:30 p.m. Shortly after 10:00 p.m., local residents and other businesses in the industrial park were startled by a dull bang, followed by smoke and odour from the fire. The odour nuisance was so severe that people around the plant had to keep their windows closed as a precaution.
Fire crews consisting of over 140 firefighters fought to extinguish the flames during the hours that followed. Two firefighters were slightly injured and received medical care while various parts of the plant were severely damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
