Incident Description:
On August 24, 2018, the Dodge City Daily Globe reported a fire at a grain elevator along Highway 56 in Montezuma, Kansas. Co-op employees had seen thick smoke issuing from the south side and top of the elevator and called the fire department, which dispatched crews immediately, as fire in or around a grain elevator could become catastrophic.
The head of the Montezuma Fire team stated that bearing or mechanical issues triggered the incident, which was confined to the boot and grain leg of the elevator. Fire crews hosed down the grain to make sure no residual heat could cause damage.
No injuries were reported and the amount of any property damage is unknown.
