Incident Description:
On January 2, 2023, Jimu News reported an explosion and fire at a coal processing plant in Nan’an City, Fujian Province, China.
A local resident of Hongmei Town said that at about 11:00 a.m. he saw thick smoke billowing over the plant in the town, along with an open flame, and then heard a sound that seemed to be an explosion.
Videos released by several local residents showed thick smoke billowing over the building, an explosion and open flame, and scattered debris falling on a nearby road. Some reporters said that the explosion occurred in the boiler of the coal processing plant, but the staff of the Nan’an Emergency Management Bureau suspected that the dust in the air deflagrated after the fire.
The fire area was over 100 square metres and kept emergency personnel engaged for hours. No injuries were reported and an investigation is underway.
