Incident Description:
On November 24, 2022, The Democrat reported a smouldering fire at a grain elevator in Jonesville, Louisiana.
Firefighters were dispatched to the site at approximately 6:30 p.m. on November 18. Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Department also assisted with evacuating the neighbourhood that surrounds the facility because of a risk of the 1.5 million bushel tank exploding.
The fire in the tank was contained, but industrial firefighting specialists arrived the next day to help put it out. In order to reach the smoldering grain, firefighters used cranes to cut access points in the tank. On Thanksgiving morning, officials confirmed that more access points were being made to cover more of the fire inside the tank.
No injuries were reported.
