Incident Description:
On July 31, 2018, WAOW.com reported an explosion and fire at a dietary supplements manufacturer in Wausau, Wisconsin. The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. during a chemical process involving magnesium.
The Fire Battalion Chief said that smoke was coming from the side of the building when crews arrived, forcing the closure of the street on both sides. After the flames were extinguished, Fire officials and local police remained on the scene, monitoring air quality, removing some of the products and chemicals and talking to employees.
All workers were evacuated and one was sent to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. The cause of the fire was identified as a magnesium leak.
