Incident Description:
On July 25, 2022, KXLG reported a silo fire at an agribusiness in Watertown, South Dakota.
Watertown Fire Rescue was called to the scene at approximately 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, employees and firefighters made their way to the top of one of the primary storage silos. Using a cage ladder, crew members gained access to a catwalk above the distributor floor of the silo.
Crews found smouldering grain inside the elevator near a bucket ladder motor near a hot spot on top of the elevator at a height of about 150′. Firefighters carefully extinguished the fire and removed the charred grain with the help of elevator staff. Crews were on the scene for about 3 hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries reported.
