On July 21, 2022, WATE reported an explosion at a chemical plant in Sevierville, Tennessee.
Emergency personnel responded at around 1:00 p.m. Officials said a nickel aluminum powder likely exploded and the fire was contained by their fire suppression system. Firefighters entered the buildings and extinguished any remaining hot spots.
Shelter-in-place instructions were issued to residents and businesses within 1,000 feet of the building. Concerns about a secondary explosion prompted a voluntary evacuation of the same area. Both were rescinded later in the afternoon.
