Incident Description:
On April 13, 2022, WSAZ3 reported that demolition work sparked a dust fire at a petrochemical plant in Haverhill, Ohio.
Scioto County Emergency Management said the fire broke out around 10:35 a.m., as a former Bisphenol A (BPA) production facility was being torn down. According to officials, when the 200-foot-tall steel structure hit the ground, a fire started on its top.
A statement released by the company says, “The cause of the fire is believed to be due to residual organic solid dust igniting as the structure was being brought down.”
The Plant Emergency Response Team, which was on standby at the time, started extinguishing the fire with plant resources.
The fire did not cause any injuries, there was no hazmat situation, and there was no danger to the public, even though smoke drifted over US 52 for a short period of time. It was declared out at around 11:45 a.m.
