According to its website, Milk Vita is a milk processing plant headquartered in Baghabari, Bangladesh. It was founded in 1974 as a cooperative that would collect milk from farmers in rural areas and sell them in urban areas of Bangladesh. The company manufactures liquid milk, yogurt, cream, powder milk, butter, and ghee.
Incident Description:
On January 16, 2022, RisingBD reported a fire in a milk powder factory in Baghabari, Bangladesh.
The fire started on the 4th floor of the powder plant at 8:30 p.m., after there was a sudden electrical short circuit inside a milk powder making machine.
Initially, the firefighters at the plant were unable to put out the fire, so the Baghabarian naval fire service was called. Afterwards, the naval fire service and two units of the Shahjadpur Fire Service cut off the vents of the 4th floor and attempted to extinguish the fire with water and foam. They finally brought the flames under control after one and a half hours.
According to the duty officer, some powdered milk was burnt inside the machine. The fire also damaged the machine itself.
No injuries were reported.
