Incident Description:
On October 6, 2021, Lowvelder reported a fire at a sugar mill in Nkomazi, South Africa.
The fire started at around 2:00 a.m. and ran through a conveyor belt. The Nkomazi fire department responded quickly, followed by the Mbombela fire department. They successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the factory and brought it under control 12 hours later.
The night shift employees were evacuated safely. No injuries were reported, but 41,000 tons of sugar were damaged.
