Incident Description:
On September 21, 2021, CTV News reported an explosion at a sawmill in Beauceville, Quebec.
The incident occurred after workers attempted to put out a fire that ignited while subcontractors were doing repair work on the roof of the plant. Sûreté du Québec officers, firefighters, and an ambulance were called to the scene at 7:30 a.m.
Three workers were killed after suffering third- degree burns to between 75% and 90% of their bodies. Five others were injured: two of them had significant burns over nearly 80% of their bodies.
An investigation by the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail is currently underway.
