Incident Description:
On August 25, 2021, Simcoe.com reported a fire at a lumber mill in Orillia, Ontario.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 11:04 a.m. They found that sawdust inside the hopper had caught fire and used their hoses to both extinguish the flames and keep them from spreading.
The hopper was outfitted with a pre-piped special suppression system that allowed firefighters to connect their hoses to the sprinkler and extinguish the flames inside the silo. This prevented spread to other wood products on site.
Damage was estimated at $250,000. No injuries were reported.
