Incident Description:
On August 17, 2021, the Bellingham Herald reported a fire at a farm in Sumas, Washington.
Firefighters were called at approximately 5:15 a.m. They arrived to find a pair of silo bunkers on fire and beginning to collapse. The bunkers were used to store hay and cottonseed feed for dairy cows.
Fire crews tackled the flames with water until excavators arrived to pull things down. They were able to keep flames from spreading to nearby barns, although some nearby corn did get scorched.
The flames caused an estimated $600,000 to $700,000 worth of damage to two feed storage bunkers and the crops that were being kept inside. No injuries were reported.
As of yet, no cause for the fire has been determined, but electrical problems or a damaged panel box may be to blame.
