Incident Description:
On May 28, 2021, Mid-Hudson News reported a fire at a cabinet manufacturer in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Poughkeepsie firefighters were joined by personnel from Arlington and Fairview Fire Districts, who helped them extinguish the flames.
According to fire officials, the fire ignited in the ceiling of a 30′ by 60′ shipping warehouse and rapidly spread. Soon after firefighters entered the building, the commanding officer ordered them out, worried about the possibility of the roof collapsing. Minutes later, the roof partially caved in.
Due to a lack of hydrants with adequate water flow on the street outside the building, firefighters had to pull out more than 500 feet of hose and hook to hydrants on nearby Smith Street, causing area roads to be closed to traffic.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. One believed that the facility dust collector may have contributed to the fire.
No injuries were reported. Approximately $250,000 of finished products scheduled to be shipped out were destroyed in the fire.
