Incident Description:
On December 30, 2020, CTV News reported an explosion at a plastics plant in Orangeville, Ontario.
Firefighters were called to the site after an explosion in a plastic extrusion unit and hopper. By mid afternoon, the fire appeared to be extinguished, with fire crews remaining on scene to check for additional hot spots.
The police closed a nearby road so that emergency crews could work and reopened it over an hour later.
One employee was reported injured due to burns. According to the Welland Tribune, the explosion resulted in $75,000 worth of damage. The incident is being investigated by the Ministry of Labour, along with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.
